Perpetually.
Every moment is a perpetual clean slate.
Isn’t that neat? It’s a new mantra of mine.
There is no past, there is no future. There is only now, the present, this moment: perpetual clean slate.
Golly, that’s neat!
I struggle with that concept when I visit my past. Specifically, when I visit my hometown and run in to people that used to know me. I say unintentional stupid things which either perpetuates my reputation from years gone by or I unknowingly insult the individual.
I’d like to cite two specific examples.
A few weeks ago, Kiddo and I ventured into the western region of the state to attend my former high school’s fall musical, “Hello, Dolly!“
Upon entering the school building I saw the father of a former BFF…
Hey Phil, how ya doing?
HIM
Good, you?
ME
Good, you?
Or the my brief interaction with the church’s youth minister…
You’ve put on some weight and’ve got a neck. Good for you!
Idiot.
Every moment is a perpetual clean slate, even the moments that occur right after you’ve completely made an ass out of yourself.
I find that very encouraging.
